  • The first things that I do is say praises to Jesus for the good things.

    Daily writing prompt
You get some great, amazingly fantastic news. What’s the first thing you do?

Whenever I receive good news, the first thing I do is shout out praises to the Lord and express a heartfelt “Thank you, Jesus.” Following that, I immediately call my mom to share the news with her. I find immense joy in sharing such moments with my parents and siblings. As for others, I tend to share the news more gradually, perhaps later in the week.

I don’t have grand plans such as hosting celebrations, treating myself to good food, or indulging in pampering sessions. I prefer to keep the joy within myself and my family before gradually sharing it with others. I’m not inclined to proclaim my achievements or share details with everyone.

  • Winning a lottery is never my cup of tea

    Bloganuary writing prompt
What would you do if you won the lottery?

If I were ever to win a lottery, the first action on my agenda would be taking my mom to the hospital and settling our family’s debts. By family debt, I am referring to the loans we’ve taken to fund the education of all four of us, given the unstable income of my parents. This would undeniably be one of the best days of my life, as it would alleviate a significant burden for my family. Subsequently, we could treat our parents to a tour around the country, at the very least. The only caveat is my skepticism about ever winning a lottery, given my historically absent luck in such matters.

  • Who I am is more important than judgement from my appearance

Maturing swiftly, seemingly unaware of the years passing by, I find myself blessed with yet another year. In my younger years, I held the belief that by my current age, I would have achieved complete independence. However, I now realize this was mere wishful thinking, as my plans were formulated without actively involving God in my prayers and aspirations. I was confident that I could contend with time and attain full independence, allowing my parents to enjoy their lives without concerns.

Reality has struck hard; instead of bringing stress relief, I find myself weighed down by more worries. My plans and dreams have been inconsistent, often wavering from one idea to another. The pressure from my family adds to the uncertainty, making it challenging to hold onto a clear path. I am currently in pursuit of a job that offers better compensation, working tirelessly with the ultimate goal of reducing the pressure.

My primary objective is to work diligently, earning more, with the bottom line being a desire for respect from my colleagues. I yearn for them to acknowledge and appreciate me for who I am, rather than forming judgments based on appearances.

  • One quirky eating habit of my family!

    Bloganuary writing prompt
Write about a few of your favorite family traditions.

While it might not appear realistic to others, our family has a unique and somewhat whimsical tradition when it comes to our eating habits, particularly with Chicken or duck curry. Regardless of the style or cuisine, my mom consistently reserves the bottom or tail part of the chicken for herself. The gizzard with the intestine is exclusively served to my dad, unless, of course, he’s in the mood to share with the rest of us.

This tradition holds a special significance for us, and when all the siblings are present, a specific allocation is made. The drumsticks find their way to the two younger sisters, while the wings are designated for my brother and me. The reasoning behind this division remains unclear to me. Perhaps it’s an inadvertent way to ensure that each family member receives a portion of meat in accordance with our age differences, or maybe it’s simply a quirky tradition that has evolved over time.

Regardless of its origins, I’ve grown accustomed to and, in a way, developed a fondness for this practice. There are moments, however, when I can’t help but envy my dad for consistently enjoying what is arguably the best part of the meal.
